After we won a new car, I decided that it was time to clean the garage. Sure, we have a two car garage, but for the last five years or so, my boat and my Mercury Outboard Parts that leaves little to no space for anything else. Truth be told, there have been times that we have had to park the minivan outside because my stuff was taking up all the space.
But after winning this new car, I decided that it was time for my boat to go. Besides the fact that it was taking up a lot of space, it hasn’t worked for three years now since I can’t find a replacement Stern Drive for it. I was thinking of selling it for parts, but I don’t think I am going to make a larger hassle for myself than I already have.
So, I have given myself until the end of the month to clean out everything and I have rented a disposal bin that I can put everything I don’t need in. It was the easiest way to do it since they delivered it and will take it away so that I don’t have to make a trip to the dump.
I guess I will have to get another hobby now that I won’t be tinkering on my boat – maybe I will take up target practice instead.

My son’s prom is going to be at the Downtown Denver Aquarium. How cool is that? They get the run of the place. How neat it would be to stroll through hallways lighted only by the aquariums, or else to go into the rainforest sections with all the birds and running water. So romantic!
And then I’d like to do some sort of outdoor party for him upon graduation. I’d love to use lots of yard lights and even lights in trees. I have a little bit of a dilemma, though. My trees are 80 foot Ponderosa Pines! Do you think there are some sort of mini lights that would be feasible for those? I’m even thinking I could use some of those giant Christmas decorations that would fit the occasion, like stars or something. But none of this is any use if I need a hook and ladder to get the things up into the trees!
I need some advice from some professional party planners, or people like those on tv who plan big wedding events for movie stars. Maybe one of you does that and would like to give a little free advice? Because I don’t have a movie star’s budget!

I support a lot of liberal causes, such as environmental concerns and animal rights, but I also believe in flexibility and finding a happy medium.
For instance, I strongly believe that animals in the meat industry are mistreated, and for the most part I don’t eat meat. Some of it is health concerns and some of it is from personal preference, but quite a bit of it stems from my dislike of the meat industry. However, I am not a full time vegetarian — on the contrary, I am a flexitarian, which means that I do eat meat sometimes, when it’s more practical or when I get a craving.
As another example, I am not willing to completely give up driving, but I am content to take the bus or walk on occasion, and I am proud to say I live in an area where almost everything I need is within walking distance of my house. I also think there are many more efficient alternatives these days, such as hybrid cars, that make driving not such a big deal.
I also think there is a lot to be said for the green building movement — not just for new developments and redevelopments, but also for renovating existing homes. For instance, residential solar energy enables you to still enjoy all of the modern comforts and conveniences, without feeling quite so bad about the energy pollution you are causing. Green commercial real estate is also catching on, with qualifications such as LEED certification to help motivate commercial property owners.
Making a difference doesn’t mean you have to refuse to eat all animal products whatsoever, walk everywhere, or live in the dark. Your happy medium is whatever allows you to do your part without giving up everything you need or love!
