I have an elevated deck behind my house and I grill on it all the time on my good old portable grill. When I'm done with it, I wheel it over to an out-of-the way corner where it won't spoil the view.

Having a portable grill on a wooden deck shouldn't be a problem unless the grill is old and leaks sparks or something. You can get a grill cover to keep the dust and pollen and sap off of it.
