My Wifes New Nursery
Posted by Primer on February 12, 2009
Growing plants has always been a hobby for my wife. Last year she decided to open a small nursery to start making money at something she enjoys. We leased a small building on some land in town, and opened up about eight months later. Being a small operation, we forgot about some of the big things we were going to need to be effective, and not kill ourselves in the process.
I told her we needed a used fork truck, as we couldn’t afford a new one at the time. She did a net search for forklift in Texas, and came up with a few options that fit our price. My job was to go look at it, learn to use it, and bring it home. A week later, we had just what we needed without paying an arm and a leg for a new one.
We have not been open for a year yet, but business is going pretty well. Since people can’t afford new homes right now, it seems that they want to make what they have looked better for a while. As a result, we are moving more stack than we figured, and that has made our delivery schedule heat up. Without that new forklift, I would probably be in the hospital by now.
